How to Pick the Right Book for Your Child

How to Pick the Right Book for Your Child

One question  I always get at the bookstore is “How do I know what book to buy for my child?”

Well, here are some tips to help you pick the perfect book for your child:

  1. Consider the age of your child: is your child a toddler, preschooler, in kindergarten or grade school?  This would definitely influence the books you pick. For toddlers, sturdy board books and cloth books are ideal. For older children, books should have catchy pictures and easy-to-read words that will interest them. For children in grade school, books on topics they enjoy that will challenge  them, but not frustrate them are just what they need.
  2. Buy books that grow with your child: a child may start out having a book read to them, but they’re growing. One day, they will be able to read that story by themselves.
  3. Buy the classics: Some books will always be loved by children the world over. Check out the tales of Brer Rabbit, Aesop’s fables and other classic fairy tales.
  4. Challenge older readers with nonfiction books: nonfiction books can be captivating too. Look out for books with cool titles that will tickle a child’s curiosity, short and interesting titles and fun facts.

These few tips should help you pick the perfect book for any child.

Love,

Debbie.
